I support the move, to include all these patches in the current kernel... I
think they should be present in Mandrake 7.2

-DVD Patch, UDF Patch will allow to read DVD-ROM, and also install DVD
movies player like livid without having to patch...
-Firewire is a more superior bus than USB and it is widely adopted by the
Video industry.
-bttv who wants to watch tv during compilation time?

A multimedia file should be built in to indicate the hardware support in
exotic hardware (capture cards, plug-in cameras, TV tuners, firewire
devices, DVD-ROM/DVD-RAM drives,...)

Note that a DVD-RAM2 has been released in Japan that allows to write 4.7GB
of data on a single side DVD-RAM and it allows this DVD-RAM to be inserted
and read in any current DVD-ROM.

Do we have to wait Kernel 2.4 to have all this stuff integrated ?

I was talking with the president of the Association Francophone des
Utilisateurs de Linux (AFUL) at INET2000, and we recognised that Linux was
not geared toward Multimedia, and that was a big drawback. Mutlimedia is a
niche market where users are keen in using non standard machines as long as
it does the job (look at Macintosh).

Mandrake 7.2 being multimedia will bring more public acceptance while
waiting for the Linux Office....

Cheers
Franck
