Internal modem? Unfortunately there's a very high chance of it being
winmodem in which case, some vendors such as Lucent I think have a
binary
only driver ...but for others ...well, you might not be so lucky.

if you can say yes to any of these you have a winmodem aka Host
controlled Modem
1 your modem came with your computer
2 you modem is PCI
3 your modem does not have any jumpers (if ISA)
4 your modem is smaller than about two business cards (real modems tend
to be about USA 1/4 sheet sized)
5 That other OS has the letters HFC in the name of the driver
If so US (in US) $60.00 will get you a rather nice ISA "real" modem
(anybody know of prices for PCI versions?)
