Just thought I'd contribute my two cents to this memory discussion. I'm
running Mandrake 7.2 on a box with 384MB ram and a 256MB swap file
(originally I had 256MB but I upgraded for fun.) I rarely if ever use my
swap file regardless of what I'm doing or how many processes I have going.
It seems for me my bottleneck is at the processor. After opening VMware,
StarOffice, Mozilla and a few other assorted apps I quickly run out of
processor, a Pentium III 450. What kind of processor will you have under the
hood of those 4GB memory monsters? Again, just my two cents, feel free to
give me some change.
