The usual test for speed: build some package with a make. Try using nmake
in NT and you can go to sleep.

Win seems faster, but it is just the GUI response. Gui (explorer) is permanent
in memory.

Same happens with Gnome or kde. Try loggin-in the first time after a boot.
Not to impressive. Log out and log in a second time. Just a flash and your
desktop is there....
