If your backup is on a remote machine, the Mandrake rescue disk is not useful.

It needs:

ssh, scp, rsh, rlogin, tar, cpio and lilo

for it be more useful.

Also, I found that tar had a problem with the hard links in the source file; 
it would not restore hard links. This isn't a Mandrake issue per se, but 
Mandrake did make hard links for gzip gunzip and zcat, so I had a problem 
with those. It might be better to use symbolic links if that works.
