lilo -r /mnt will chroot and will read the /mnt/boot/boot.b

-> which will fail if /mnt/boot/boot.b is missing (making lilo presence on the
rescue less useful)
-> which may be fail if /mnt/boot/boot.b is a different version
(eg: use the rescue of 7.2 on a 8.0 system)

so installing lilo is the best solution in case like this.
