Currently running a Gateway Solo 9100 laptop with a Matshita SR-8171, and
I'm currently haveing problems reading DVD data with it.
In an earlier version of Mandrake (7.2? don't remember) I was able to read
the datafiles from the drive, and attempt to play them with linux based DVD
players. I didn't get too far at the time because of X problems, but the
files would read.
Now I'm running the Cooker version of Mandrake, with the 2.4.5-1 kernel. I
can put a DVD in the drive, and get a directory from it, however I can NOT
read any of the data files off the drive - I get Input/output errors. Plain
CD's will read OK.
fstab entry for the drive is:
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0
which is how it was set up by the installer. Anyway, the drive works OK in
windows.
