I have done this, and also deleted ~/.esd_auth, but no improvement.

My /etc/esd.conf is exactly like that.
If it is working for every one else, may be I have a corrupted library or
something some where ... don't know if it afects, but I am using the commercial
OSS from 4FrontTech ...
