Not only that, I have absolutely no on-board sound or graphics. Why is the
ac97_codec being loaded? I thought that was strange, but slipped my mind to
ask about it in original post.
Possibly another indication that something may not be quite right with the
new emu10k1 module?

Well, it doesn't work too good for when one might like their system sounds
low and the tv at a higher volume. When I turn up main volume loud enough to
comfortably hear the dialogue on tv the kde system notifications are
(uncomfortably) too loud. To me, it sounds more logical the old way. <shrug>

I also have the Sound Blaster Live! Value. It's about a year or so old,
before the new (dolby?) 5.1 came out. PCM has no effect at all, and I'm
missing some other mixer settings I had in 8.0, such as digital 1 & 2 and
base & treble (tho digital 2 didn't have an effect).

Wonder why they were independent previously? Was that considered a
bug/malfunction then and is fixed now?

Well, given that was my desire... a little subjective, huh? Maybe poor
choice of words for a technical mailing list.

Well, it's been like this for every version of 2.4.8 kernel I've tried (tho I
only go back to beta1 and the sound didn't work at all in beta1). I'm not
aware of any emu-tools. Could you elaborate?
Well, anyway, I just wanted to make the developers aware of this (and was
maybe hoping for something). I still think something may be just a little
off with the new module. I hope they at least read this.
