If that's true, then they'd be better off not claiming to be the most friendly
distro for the new users which I'm trying to bring into the light. New users
will not care that CUPS is clobbering /etc/hosts, and draknet is destroying
their access to DNS servers simply from hitting "Next" on the first screen, and
<others we haven't found yet?>... they'll only see that Mandrake Linux is
unreliable, and "quits working for no obvious reason"...

If Mandrake wants to risk their reputation, this is one way to do it: continue
proliferating *spaghetti coded* GUI configurators and ignore the consequences...

Now retired from 35 years in data networking, I've always gone with whatever
product I considered to be the best at the time; that's how I came to use
Mandrake since 6.0... and before anybody says "then you should be able to...",
I'll respond immediately by saying that if a company spouts a mission to be the
best for *new users*, then blows off something that can have a negative impact
on that mission; they've taken the first step at losing my support. I will
return to searching out a better distro to help move Linux forward in the home
business area where I'm trying to focus these days. I will not waste my time
with a company that grows into a "level of incompetence" at supporting those
trying to grow both their own and their supplier's (Mandrake in this case)
business.

Likewise... If anyone thinks this is flame-bait, they are seriously
mistaken... I *WILL* begin my search for another distro if Mandrake flames me
for these comments. That said, Mandrake has always mended their blunders in the
past, which is why I still support them and promote their products.

I sincerely hope this was a *joke* response from Damien... Till did "The Right
Thing(tm)" in immediately fixing CUPS...
