I use rsync -vrltP --delete --stats --exclude-from=$exclude_file \
  --max-delete=100

I just get the link too - that's the point - you don't want two lots of
contrib.

I rsync cooker, contrib, updates and unsupported with separate commands
in a batch file. My local mirror directory tree matches Mandrake's, viz:
/mnt/downloads/mandrake
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/8.0
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/8.1
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel/contrib
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel/cooker
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel/unsupported
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/iso
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/updates

and /mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS2 =>
/mnt/downloads/mandrake/devel/contrib/i586/
