The cooker "snobbery" that has developed on this list in the past 12 months (and more dramatically in the last six) is rather disheartening. Yes, cooker is an unstable (sometimes unusable) distribution. Yes, it is intended primarily for use by those who Know What They Are Doing (tm). But this is really going too far in discouraging upgrades/testing. If there are problems upgrading to the latest superxyz-9.5.3-1mdk package and that problem can be attributed to a change in libraries, then great. But if the package installed cleanly (i.e. no --force or --nodeps) and something the package required isn't there, then there is a dependency issue. When would you rather hit these problems? Now, in the middle of a development cycle, or a few months down the road when Joe User is trying to "upgrade" his 8.[01] box to 8.2 and suddenly has a broken superxyz. I have been a Mandrake user since 6.0 and followed this list since 6.1. Yes, using cooker packages can be dangerous, and may require upgrading many packages on the system. But, the fact that somebody's machine had [6-8].[0-2] as the last install doesn't mean that he isn't presenting a valid problem. (As for me, this particular box is a hybrid of old and new packages from several vendors that runs well and hasn't seen an install disk since 6.1) In short, please stop flaming people for not riding the edge 24x7. If they satisfied all depends and it broke, then there may be a genuine problem. -- Anton Graham GPG ID: 0x18F78541 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> RSA key available upon request There are three rules for writing a novel.
