Yes Artsd is running. The sound server works in every application except in
KDE Media player. If i run XMMS with the artsc plugin it works, XINE with
the Artsc plugin works, gaim with the artsc plugin works. My hardware is
maestro 3i I believe that is how it is spelled, running on a Dell Inspiron
Laptop, But I have also seen the problem reproduced in 3 other desktop
machines. One was running on a VIA motherboard on board sound "Via
technologies, inc. AC97 Audio COntroller" one was running a old
Soundblaster 16 sound card and one was running a ESS audio sound card.
The media player gives this output when run on the current cooker. Yes I am
using DevFs.

KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = noatun path = <unknown> pid = 2338
noatun: ERROR: KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error!

On mandrake 8.1 it have a "unix:/dcop-tmp cannot connect to server" or
something similar error message.

This was with the version of kde, 2.2.1 , that came with Mandrake 8.1 and
also the update 2.2.2 and the current cooker 2.2.2

When i forced a install of the redhat kdemultimedia rpm on top of the
mandrake one using mandrake 8.1 it corrected the problem and the media player
started working perfectly.

ALso when the media player crashes it crashes the sound server with it.
I have to restart the sound server for any sound to work.
