Oh, I meant in the kernel log.
When printerdrake is started it unloads and loads parport and parport_pc.
Most printers are then listed in the kernellog with brand and model.
If that would be the case with your scanner then scannerdrake might be able to 
autodetect it.
I am just guessing, but I thought that it was possible.
