I'm using MDK 8.2 with kernel 2.4.18-6 (the download edition, without any
modification).
I recently noticed that when doing disk acceses on large files, my machine
behaves strangely : the mouse pointer doesn't move anymore, the whole PC
becomes unresponsive, etc. Doing a 'top' during the operation doesn't
show any process taking more than 20% or so, so I guess the problem is
appearing in the kernel. As soon as the disk acces is over, everything
works as again.
Could it have sthg to do with DMA/UltraDMA IDE drives ? Or perhaps with
ext3fs and kjournald ?
Machine is a Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz + 512 Mo RAM. I can send more infos (from
/proc/ide for instance) to help tracking the source of the pb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have the feeling of working
on a non-multitask OS :-(
