I have old Philips CDD-3610. It is known to be not fully compliant and
IDE error handling in Linux is far from being perfect.

No. You are too fast to jump to conclusion. I have exactly the same
problem with CDs burnt under Windows. DAO is O.K. while TAO gives
strange errors.
