OK... my simple attempt to uncomplicate new installs has some flaws
too... :^)

I hate when a new install:

- blindly clobbers everything in /root:
  I'll consider using something like:
     ln -s /home/root/bin /root/bin
but, I'll still want msec to NOT change /home/root to 755

- blindly uses what was previously in the install partitions:
  I have 3 sets of / and /usr partitions; when I installed LM8.2,
it was into the oldest, LM7.2 partition... rather than let me
specify the LM8.1 partitions as source of previous config info,
install used what it found in this oldest set of partitions.

- I use uid/gid of 555+ for my users because new installs may
shift these *without* cleaning the resulant mess...

- etc.

My point is that while install procedures are getting better, they still
have a long way to go... when Mandrake first asked for donations, we
could specify which effort they should go to... mine went to "install"
issues... maybe Mandrake can tell us where people voted with their
donations at the time..? :^)

All this to say that sometimes what seems like a simple, even "VERY BAD
IDEA", is done to circumvent issues that should be addressed... but there
is no *reliable* place to register these ideas since attempts to use some
form of bug/feature system (bugzilla) always degrades to e-mail "cuz any
other system is too difficult"...

Hope this helps understand my 'bad idea'...

BTW, correcting my bad idea does not imply that msec should not be
corrected to avoid making /home/* directories less secure.

Cheers,
Pierre
