That's funny. I know about the staticy, that's why I finally think 0.9.x is the way to
go.
A search on google didn't give me anything on this. Actually I saw more problems with
the
OSS driver, allthough they were rather old.

I have 2 value's here, and they work fine. Are you sure it is not a configuration
issue?
Also I would like to point out that SuSe is using ALSA for quite some time now.

ALSA is really something for people using their desktop to run mult-media apps. The
old driver is
kinda shitty in that respect.
The mixer has tons options to configure (It is even possible to modify volume per
application).
It is easy to turn of a speakerset unknowingly. And there is the problem that CD-sound
is only
playable on 2 speakers, but this is an hardware issue, and also exsists in the emu10k1
driver.

So I would like to see 1 person who is running current cooker and has a problem with
the current driver (apart
from not being capable of modifying a line in modules.conf when running a non-default
kernel).

Actually, I am all for having a harddrake with options for different sound driver, but
replying to all
these mails have kept me from making a list just for doing that :)

Since if it gets turned back, other people will be unhappy again, such a feature is
really needed to prevent
pointless discussions like this. It reminds me of: should be default to kde or to
gnome?
