I just added this option to my XF86Config-4 file (currently Mandrake 8.2 box), running this box for few hours now, and the cranked sound with esd seems to go away. (Previously I got choppiness sometimes when Mozilla draw its contents and I played through esd). So at the very least, I think it won't hurt to add it. Michal Bukovjan
