Bottom line for the customer is how does he get midi sound without rebuilding
his system or going back to version 8.1
I have a Soundeblaster Live.
In 8.1. the system worked, although i had to install the modules and edit
/etc/modules.conf myself as neither harddrake nor sndconfig would work.

In 8.2 the sound would not work even with a manual install and I actually went
back to 8.1 for a while until someone pointed out that I had to open a mixer
and run the Pcm and Digital sliders to max. Then I had sound except midi
until someone else told me to retrieve the TiMidity an instruments from 8.1.
I still had to use modprobe and edit /etc/modules.conf manually.

In 9.0, the installer installed alsa for the emu10k1 and I get sound but no
midi.
Aha! says I wiIl just first try the current timidity and if it does not work I
will go back and fetch the one from 8.1
But now a new problem. When I try to install timidity, I get an error message
to the effect that I must first remove kdemultimedia-3.0.3-7mdk.
I would cheerfully delete kdemultimedia-3.0.3-7mdk if I was sure that it would
not impair the performance of some other part of the system but as I have no
way of knowing, I am now sitting here wondering if I should simply revert
version 8.1.
How is a new user who has a Soundblaster Live (a commonly sold card) to react
when he comes across this situation.
