No there is not really a good way for you to test without installing a full cooker problem. The PCM output is a "feature" not a bug. You can disable the PCM by going into kcontrol and going into sound, system bell and choosing "Use system bell instead of system notification."
Anway this bug is closed. THis is more of a support issue than a bug report.
