To be able to program your PVR from work... I _always_ forget to program my video and think of it too late.
I've also been trying to create a PVR/'multimedia center' on top of Mandrake, but have put the project on hold until I vind a quieter CPU fan...

One of the problems I was having was auto-executing applications
based on the disc inserted. I'd like mplayer or xine to be executed automatically (but with
different parameters) on inserting a DVD, VCD or CD-ROM containing divx files, and a CD or MP3 player for audio CDs and MP3 CDs.
I couldn't find any programs that will do that, and have worked around it by assigning seperate buttons on my remote to starting the different programs, but this is not ideal...
Do any of you know of a better solution?

If you can read or translate german You should have a look at http://vdr.repulse.de/

It has mp3 and divx plugins so you don't have to switch application depending on media.

In french :
http://eclipsedvd.christophefantoni.com/linux-vdr.htm

In english :
http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/

Most of the information for these project type are from germany.
