It's not plugin. That's multiple libraries automatically selected by the 
dynamic loader.

That one should use the same approach as for glibc. That was planned. 
Optimized i686/SSE libraries can go to */lib/i686/sse, and they would be 
automatically loaded if underlying processor supports that. That implies 
to build mplayer with shared libs, of course.
