when you say "firmware" can you define it further, are you refering to the 
*.bin "driver" that is propritary to the scanner and might have to be copied 
or at least refered to in a complete path statement to a mounted drive?
I have a prisa scanner (320U) that while it might not be supported, it works 
for me....
