By selecting NTFS in the fstab, the partition would mount and work properly. There was some discussion about NTFS being detected as HPFS before on the cooker list. This appaears to be neither detecting as NTFS or HPFS, but as some variant of HPFS. Since Windows XP generated the partition in question, this may be an issue for many first time users.
