------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-07 05:28 -------
Norton, under Windows XP, says the partition is IFS, but the filesystem is NTFS.
There is
evidently some additional information that needs to be looked at to determine what
type of file
system is there. One I update fstab to say it is ntfs, it seems to work ok, or at
least as well as
everyone else is seeing ntfs work. This is a working primary bootable partition with
Windows
XP Pro installed on it and running fine. The only thing slightly different about my
system is
having System Commander installed, but I don't think that should alter the partition
type.

When installing RC1, and after completing the installation, diskdrake thought that
/dev/hda1 was
"Hidden IFS (e.g. HPFS)", and generated a fstab that would not allow the partition to
be
mounted. By selecting NTFS in the fstab, the partition would mount and work properly.

There was some discussion about NTFS being detected as HPFS before on the cooker list.

This appaears to be neither detecting as NTFS or HPFS, but as some variant of HPFS.
Since
Windows XP generated the partition in question, this may be an issue for many first
time users.
