  I think the nice thing about a middle ground is that it serves to prevent 
buggy stuff from getting mixed in with an almost stable release. By the time 
stuff is able to get into "testing" you really don't have many showstoppers 
or major annoyances. Really to a point, this style of development guarantees 
that the distribution in testing is "almost ready" for release whenever you 
need it to be. It also allows unstable stuff to continue to be integrated 
even while you are preparing a release.
 
  I think the existing Cooker works well, but that might be something worth 
considering in the future.

  Actually, I am running 9.0, although I do have a cooker partition. This 
install is 9.0 running a late december cooker kernel (since I needed a newer 
kernel to use DMA with my motherboard) and KDE 3.1 RC5 (call me lazy... I 
haven't bothered upgrading since final came out).
