Butter Meltaways

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Additional sugar

In a large bowl, cream the butter,  oil, and both of the sugars until light and 
fluffy.  Add the egg and the vanilla.  Combine the flour, baking soda, and the 
cream of tartar.  Gradually add to the creamed mixture.  Chill for several 
hours or overnight.  Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased 
baking sheets.  Flatten with a fork dipped in flour.  Sprinkle with additional 
sugar.  Bake at 350 F for 13-15 minutes or until lightly browned.  Remove to 
wire racks to cool.   Makes about 4 dozen
