This particular pressure cooker has . what are called wings that the lid
locks into and screws on very tight. then if the pressure gets higher than
what the pressure valve (also called the jiggler valve) can handle, the
entire lid pops up slightly and releases some pressure
then there is another safety release valve just in case the others get stuck
or something. I wouldn't say never, but I have cooked pressure fried
chicken which cooks on high for 15 or 20 minutes and it did not explode.
