Hi. One thing to keep in mind here is that everyone's microwave is different as far as the power setting or default power level. My microwave always cooks things faster than most microwaveable product suggestions instruct, so I have to check things periodically just to avoid messy accidents. Most of the microwave instructions I see indicate what power microwave was suggested when the instructions were produced. it comes down to knowing your appliances and what you like as far as thick or runny oatmeal.

In fact, to be quite truthful, we do microwave instant oat meal all the time. What we do is we fill the coffee mug we want with water. We heat the water for a minute and 20 seconds or so, and when the oven stops we add in the oat meal, we stir it, and it is ready.

I never thought about adding things to it, but it can be done.

Hi Everyone,
I make oatmeal in the microwave all the time. I use the pre-packaged
oatmeal. Put two thirds cupof water in a bowl. Add the package of oatmeal.
Add anything else you want. Place in the mic for a minute and 20 seconds and cook on high. Stir before placing it in the mic and then stir again when it
comes out. My husband liked a little butter and brown sugar in his. HTH.

I remember when I was living in my old apartment back in 1981 when I started
living on my own that I made oat meal in a coffee cup. I learned the hard
way that you don't put water and oat meal in the same cup and boil in the
microwave. The oat meal expands, and it goes in your microwave oven. It
makes quite a mess. It's better to boil your water, then add the oat meal
after that. That works best.

What kind of oatmeal? When making instant I just heat the water for three
minutes and the add oatmeal and other ingredients. A lid or one of those
covers Dale talked about on a recent show might help, as would a larger
container, as I suspect it's bubbling over during the cooking process.

Hello,
Whenever I cook oatmeal following the package directions, it ends
up all over the carousell in the microwave. Any suggestions?
