There have been those times when we used the microwave oven, and, not only that, dinner was late because we had to wait. Nevertheless, noone in our family ever went without eating.

You change the water about every fifteen minutes as the meat thaws. I've never tried thawing meat in a crockpot. It would probably take longer than you'd be willing to wait for dinner.
