I found baking is the easiest for me. I have fried them also, but baking them is easier because I don't have to constantly watch them. I tell by texture as well. I bake them at 350 for a half hour or so, depending on thickness.

I have not done this in over a year so I don't remember the precise time and temperature I used, but that's a definite way to get them cooked through. Maybe someone else knows about baking hamburgers and how long to do them?
