I had to start a whole new message because the reply I sent to the list did not go through for some reason. In my experience, I can tell when cheese has gone bad from the smell when I sniff the open package. It's hard to describe the smell but it's not a very pleasant smell. So I would suggest giving your cheese the sniff test and if it doesn't smell like cheese anymore, it's probably not good for eating in my opinion. The stuff that others have said about cheese clumping together when moldy is also true.
Hope this helps,
Brittany

When shredded cheese goes moldy it tends to fuse together again. Most cheese
is sold using sell by dates instead of expiration dates, and if it hasn't
been opened it should be fine anyway.

Subject: [CnD] Cheese

Hi,
O have two bags of shredded cheese in my fridge. I just realized one of
them expired a week or so ago. What are some ways I can tell that's
gone bad with out getting a sighted friend to check?
Thanks,
Mary
