Never cooked them in the microwave, but this is what I found on the web.
Microwave directions for a single serving
2/3 cup water
1/3 cup barley flakes
Pinch salt, optional
Optional fruit additions: 1/2 chopped banana, 2 tablespoons raisins or other dried fruit

In 4-cup microwave-proof container, combine water, barley, salt and fruit of choice. Microwave on HIGH power for 3 minutes. Stir. Continue to microwave on HIGH power for 3 minutes longer. Cool slightly and serve. Makes 1 serving.

Hi,
Is this different than the barley used for soup? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

I've never tried cooking them in the microwave. Halve the portions for a
single serving. They cook exactly like white rice, so whatever you use to
make rice should work. I buy them at the grocery store in either the baking needs aisle or where the rice and other grains are. The ones I get come in a
box, not a bag. You may also be able to find them in the bulk section of
stores that sell things in bulk.

I've never heard of barley flakes. Where do you find them? Can they
be cooked in the microwave? I live alone, so would only need one
serving.
