I have done that, too, or also baked as bread in loaf pans. I like the idea
of using the turkey baster, but wouldn't it be hard to clean that tube and
guarantee all the dough is out of it?

I've heard turkey basters do a good job with this too, but I haven't tried
it myself. I tend to turn muffins into coffee cake.

Depending on the thickness of the batter, try putting the batter in a
ziplock bag, snipping off the corner and squeezing the batter into the cups.
