Hi Larry, I've done it with no problem. I just use a large pot. I find it is easier on a stove with an actual burner instead of a flattop stove. I don't recall if it was the Washington Post or the New York Times who had a piece about doing popcorn on the stovetop. It was within the last month. I'll look and see if I saved the article. Lori
