I have made popcorn on the stove and actually I prefer it over microwave popcorn. I would put oil in the pot and the amount depends on how much of the popcorn you are popping. I always place a top on the pot for obvious reasons.
I use a pot with 2 handles and I would hold each handle and move the pot from left to right over the stove and you will hear it pop.
