I'd vote for displaying a pop-up message window with the choice given
to the user. That is to say, it might be indeed a *stupid user*, but
more often I'm experiencing the case where students just didn't
noticed their mistake. It might be also a personal choice of the
user, in which case you don't want to do things silently (or it might
result in plenty of e-mails to the mailing-list asking "how can I put
this command off?").
Just my thought though.
