If I built from 38 to then end (which I happened to know was the N-terminus) I would reverse the direction of the fragment. Next I would go back to residue 38, I would place my first new baton tip at what is now 38 and then build 39, 40, 41 in the "correct" direction. Coot should use what you have already built to place the new atoms.
