To reproduce: In Coot 1.3.1 (Mac or Linux) download a pdb file (eg 3AUV) turn on environment distances center on a water molecule like //A/277/ (environment distances are shown) hit space to advance to the next water - distances are not shown Hit āpā to update the go-to atom by position - now distances are shown
If residues or waters are within the smooth-recentering distance, then the environment distances update when you advance, but otherwise no, so this is mainly a problem when reviewing waters. As it happens, if I accidentally hit āpā while a smooth recentering is happening (itchy trigger finger), the go-to atom position is updated to whatever CA atom I happen to be passing at the moment, and I lose my place in the water list. -- Kevin M.
