Hello Robert,

Sorry for being a fly in the ointment here, folks, but Ballinteer More is not a
townland within Camus parish (official name Camus-juxta-Mourne) in which
Strabane, Co. Tyrone, lies. I have transcribed the 1827 Camus tithe applotment
book which can be found on the CTI website at
http://www.cotyroneireland.com/tithe/tithe_camus.html which contains neither
Guthries or Ballinteer More.

Robert, did you take the reference from the CD Index to the Tithe Applotment
Books 1823-38 (Family Archive Viewer, 1999)? This compilation contains many
errors; have had a quick search and have found a Samuel Guthrie recorded in
the townland of Ballinteer North, in Macosquin parish, Co. Londonderry in
Griffiths Valuation c1860 http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/.
This CD contains a great many errors. I have transcribed and indexed the tithe
applotment books for all Tyrone parishes and there is not a single record for
any Guthrie as a tithepayer in the county.

Just before signing off I have taken a look at Bill Macafee’s invaluable CD
Researching Derry and Londonderry Ancestors which contains the 1831 Co.
Londonderry census and it records both Adam and William Guthrie at Ballinteer.
Hope this clarifies things. Also many thanks to Bill Macafee for his wonderful
compilation.

Regards,
Len Swindley, Melbourne, Australia

Subject: Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Guthrie Research Co Tyrone

Hello Heather

I can only find 2 Guthries are paying land tax in Tyrone from 1823 onwards .

{books close in 1834}

As they are only one generation later, they may be extended members of your
Guthrie family.

Guthrie was/is not a common name in Tyrone. There are still a few around today
and a few living in the City of Londonderry but they would not be considered
"prolific"

Adam Guthrie
County : Tyrone
Parish : Camus
Ballinteer More
Date of entry : 31st March 1828

William Guthrie
County : Tyrone
Parish : Camus
Ballinteer More
Date of entry 31st March 1828

The market town of Strabane is at the center of the Parish of Camus

best regards
Robert

I'm looking for ancestry of James Guthrie. He & his brothers left Tyrone

County, Ireland for America in 1790's. I'm looking for more information on

them. Any ideas where I can dig more about them. I looked up on Ancestry.com,

& county courthouse, I only found little information. Hope someone in Tyrone

County in Ireland can help.
