Dear Sirs,

I have been attempting to trace my family tree but have been unable to find any
records relating to two of the most important people in County Tyrone.

My great-great-grandparents were a Thomas McSorley, born in Tyrone circa 1854
and Mary Anne, nee McFadden, who was around four years older.

They first appear in the 1881 Census in Scotland and they live out their lives
there.

My great-grandfather William McSorley was born in Glasgow in 1877 and on the
birth certificate, it gives the parents date and place of marriage. The date is
February 1876 and the County is Tyrone, but the Parish is causing some
confusion.

It looks like "Astroe" but no such Parish exists in Tyrone (I have looked at
the birth certificates for all of their children and it says the same thing).

I've done some research and it may actually be "Ardstraw" and this would tie in
as Thomas' parents were William and Nancy (nee Cowley) and I have found death
certificates for both of them, one in Killeter and one in Castlederg so it
looks very much like they lived their lives in the west of Tyrone, next to the
border with Donegal.

Mary Ann, mentioned above, was definitely from Donegal as I have found death
notices for her parents Denis and Isabella (or Bell, nee Gallagher) in Donegal
City.

I have searched every site I can think of for any evidence relating to Thomas
and Mary Ann's birth details and marriage details but can find nothing.

If anyone can offer any assistance I would be very grateful. I am intending to
travel to Tyrone in the next few weeks and would be happy to buy someone a pint
or two!

All the best,

Andy McSorley
