Hi Lesley,

First a quick but very important correction. Your great grandparents,
Thomas Booth and Jane Gilchrist, did NOT marry in Camus-juxta-Mourne
church. That is a Church of Ireland church. They married in First
Strabane Presbyterian church, as per the marriage cert. Have a closer look.

This is the marriage of Thomas and Jane and the births of their first
children:

Notes:

These places, Drumnaboy and Stragullin, both locate Thomas in the area on
the southern outskirts of the town of Strabane, which is therefore where we
should expect to find Thomas' father, Robert.

Your grandfather, Thomas, born in Ballindrait in 1886, is a bit of a red
herring. As a labourer, Thomas seems to have travelled about 3 miles west
of Strabane into County Donegal, probably for work reasons.

Married in 1873, Thomas was probably born circa 1850, his father circa 1820.

This Robert was born circa 1820 and is living in Sion Mills, about two
miles south of Strabane:

This is his death record:

You found this Robert Booth in Lisky:

He lived in House 4e, renting it from John Stewart who had a huge 137 acre
farm. Robert's house is valued at a mere five shillings, which is in
keeping with a family of labourers. Lisky is about a mile south of Sion
Mills, 3 miles south of Strabane.

Robert left Lisky in 1875 when all of the farm labourers' cottages are
renovated, and the rents were probably increased as a result, according to
the Griffiths Valuation Revision Books, perhaps moving into Sion Mills
where he appears in the 1901 Census and where he dies.

I would be 90% sure that this profile all fits the same family and that
Robert Booth of Lisky is indeed your great great grandfather.

Do you know how to use the online GV at
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ to locate the exact spot
in Liskey, House 4e, where he lived at around the time your great
grandfather was born?

I am intrigued to know where you found the information from the 1851
Census!! A census with the maiden name of a woman? Oh my!

Hope this helps,

Boyd
