It is fascinating history. Around the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Catholics and Presbyterians made common cause as they were both excluded from the establishment.

I incorrectly assumed that such schools was where Catholics achieved an education and was surprised that it was not only Catholics who were subject to penal laws, but also Presbyterians.
