For many years before Ancestry killed them, we had very efficient county and surname Rootsweb Mailing Lists which were a great way of ‘advertising’ one’s family connections.
Quite often there would be a roll call which would be of benefit to new researchers or those who had recently ‘discovered’ another name of interest. Another way of interesting listers is to engender interest in various townlands. Quite often there has been intermarriage between families in various townlands. I keep my large family tree on my own computer with Reunion software. I get so annoyed when I read even my own deceased parents’ names on totally wrong trees. I have often written to the owner to ask them to change the information but mostly hear nothing back. I think Familysearch is a fantastic FREE site and I have in the past contributed by transcribing records. I would never however put my family tree on that site and certainly wouldn’t put it on Ancestry. I may be wrong but I understood Ancestry now “owns” all the information on its site. Bill, I wish one of my various Johnston families came from Omagh or Fintona. I seem to have three or four branches of them but all in Fermanagh.
