Len is right.
I need to clarify that Masons are not "anti-Catholic". Indeed, it is the other
way round ... as a basic principle, Freemasonry accepts people of all faiths.
Anyone who believes in a "Supreme Being" ("the Creator") is welcome.
So, in your genealogical research, don't close your mind to any Masonic lists.

Prior to a Papal ruling of the 1860s, Catholics were numerous in Masonic
Lodges; indeed, there were instances where Catholics made up the majority of
membership.

I am assuming that in 18th and 19th C Ireland the Masons were as anti-Catholic
as they still are in this day and age?
That just means I won?t need to check any Masonic Lists as they come through!
