Hello Len, I’m wondering if the Papal ruling had anything to do with Garibaldi too, and his push for unification, as he was a Freemason. My Great Grandfather’s Latona family was living in Palermo during that time and were obviously great supporters of Garibaldi. I know that as a couple of descendants carried his name, and my GGrandfather in Australia, and his brother who ended up in Scotland, were both Masons. Of course they were raised Catholics as well!
