Hey Paul: I was thinking of this over the weekend, while having a similar problem with a Cherokee - Ophs, A late model Ercoupe (now I'm legal). Here is a way to check, without taking up the floor boards. Drain or burn off all but about 1 gallon of fuel from the right and your unusable two gallon from the left. Use a ruler to measure the amount of fuel in each tank. Put a 5 gallon bucket under the left wing drain. Open the drain. Here's what should happen. If you drain one gallon from the right tank and little or none from the left, the restriction is in the fuel tank (probably the screen in the drain). If you drain two gallon from the left and none from the right, then the restriction is in the line, under the wing root fairing or floor boards. Now if the right wing drained and the left didn't, lift the left wing slightly and see if you get a cross feed. That should indicate a bend in the line, if you do get the feed. When you are looking under the floor boards, look for 90 degree elbows in the lines. They should not be any pointing up. (You would be amazed at the plumbing I came across). If you drain some other amount, your plane is possessed. Sell it off at a very reduced price or sacrifice a Cessna.
