I'm having a little work done on my A2, so I stopped into the shop yesterday to have a look at my gascolator. It's mounted on the firewall, and my AP says "it's a good one" -- he thinks it's a superior mounting to what he's seen on many larger and more expensive airplanes. Is there any precedent for applying A2 mods to 415s? If so, you might want to consider mounting it to the firewall.
If you're interested, I could scan a photo of it so you could see the
mount.
I'll put it up on my website & send you the URL so you won't have to get
a
big attachment in email.

Paul,
Funny thing you should say something about the bracket. My bracket
actually broke! I built an exact copy of the original aluminum bracket out
of
steel ( I will take the extra weight increase in this case). Had it signed
off so as to be legal... "equal to or better than original" Haven't had
any
problems but jeesh what a thing to have on your mind all the time. Someone
was asleep at the wheel when the gascolator was located on the engine and
not
the firewall. Has anyone heard of re-locating it to the firewall
(LEGALLY)
?
Andy
