I am new to Ercoupes and their Site type fuel gauges. I am also a student pilot. Prior to takeoff, as usual, I visually inspected the fuel tanks (wing and header) and they were all full. After I climbed to 2500 feet I noticed the site tube on the header tank was going up and down and then it started sucking air (I thought)as bubbles began to rise up into the site tube....like some gurgling! I landed the aircraft and examined the tanks. They were all fine! I had previously had problems with siphoning on my left wing tank, but I thought that was due to overfilling and maybe bad gaskets. I replaced the fuel cap gasket and made it part of my checklist to fill the tanks till they were just 1 inch from the top, but not all the way to the top. Is everything I am describing normal? This airplane had a fresh annual before I bought her two weeks ago. I am not sure I would trust her on a cross country, though mechanically she runs extremely well. Thank you for any comments or suggestions.....I still love my 'coupe...just a little concerned!
